How to Organize Cards

16

Hi Pebbles friends, it’s Wendy Sue here today sharing an idea for organizing cards!  You probably already know, but I make cards.  A lot of cards.  A lot lot lot of cards.  I love having a huge stash of fun cards to choose from for just about any occasion.  The only problem is figuring out how to best organize them.  I’ve tried lots of different ways over the years (here’s a link to the system I tried last year HERE).  But I’m still looking for the best system for me.  So this year, I’m going to try something new.  I’m putting the Project Life system to work for me in my card-organizing endeavor!  When I thought of this, it almost seemed TOO easy.  Most cards are 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ – which means they fit almost perfectly in a 4″x6″ page protector opening.  I don’t mind having them stick out of the top just a bit – in fact, that makes it easier to pull them out.  And I love the idea of being able to organize the cards by theme, and see them all in a glance – no need to pull out a stack and flip through each card – just open the binder and flip the pages! Here’s a look at my new system:

I made cards for each card “theme.”  These cards will separate the sections in my binder. How to organize your homemade cards by @wendysue for @PebblesInc
I’ll place each one in the top right corner of a page protector for easy reference.

Here’s how easy it was to assemble each of the cards.

First, I cut a 4″ x 6″ piece of patterned paper for each card, and a 3 1/4″ x 4″ paper as well.  I found the themes on the “thankful” paper in the Woodland Forest collection – but many of the Pebbles collections have a similar page that would work!  I also pulled a cute embellishment and some twine for each card.

The first step is to stitch, with a sewing machine and white thread, the patterned paper to the left side of the neutral 4″x6″ paper:How to organize your homemade cards by @wendysue for @PebblesInc

Next, place the “theme” card on the right side, slightly sticking out over the top of the card. How to organize your homemade cards by @wendysue for @PebblesInc

Next, I used a mini stapler to add the jute to the card. Here’s a simple way to add a jute bow.  Staple the jute down wherever you want the bow to be.How to organize your homemade cards by @wendysue for @PebblesInc

Tie the jute in a knot over the staple (this will pretty much hide the staple). How to organize your homemade cards by @wendysue for @PebblesInc

Now tie a bow – the staple has disappeared and there’s a perfectly placed jute bow!

Add the wooden embellishment to the left side of the card. How to organize your homemade cards by @wendysue for @PebblesInc

That’s it!

Now repeat the process for each card:

I added some thickers to the label holder in the spine of the binder:

Now just tuck your handmade cards into the divided sheet protectors and you’re ready to share love through your cards!  One other thing I like about this system is that I can use some of the other page protectors to hold different sized cards – or even tags.  If I use a regular 12×12 page protector, I could even tuck in gift bags!  Another thing I think I’m going to like about this system is the convenience of seeing which themes need to be replenished!  When I’m in the mood to create cards, I can flip open the binder and see which theme has less “inventory” to choose from and go from there!

Thanks for stopping by today.  If you have a favorite way to organize your cards, please share in the comments – I love seeing how other people organize!!

Quick Gift: Organization – Scrapbooking Planner

Hello everyone! Heather Leopard is here today to share one of my resolutions this year.  My goal is to get more organized as a family – from school, to the home, to work and everything in between.  I used to keep a binder with all my creative projects – due dates, sketches, ideas and inspiration but I moved to digital a few years ago.  As much as I enjoy having all of that at my fingertips , being able to access it wherever, whenever, not everyone is like that.  I thought I’d create a “scrappiness” planner for a dear friend and offer the templates for all of you.  Here is what I created.

I created this all from scratch and you can too!  Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Chipboard
  • Patterned Paper – up to 6 different patterns
  • Embellishments
  • Thickers
  • Binding machine and coils
  • Scrapbooking Planner Templates – download HERE

Start by creating your covers.  The template is created to be 4″ x 6″ so I made my covers 5 3/4″ x 7 1/2″. I used some kraft chipboard and then covered the front and back covers with patterned paper.

Next, print the templates. They are made to print 4″ x 6″ so you can print them on pre-cut paper on regular letter sized paper.  You can also resize them.

Cut tabbed dividers so that the tabs hang over the page inserts. I wanted to keep this pure black and white so I alternated the divider as such.

Using your binding machine, line up your divides and planner pages and punch your holes.  Repeat as needed.  Then punch your cover.

Lastly, bind all the pages together and decorate the cover and inside pages as desired.

Journaling Mini book

Hello Pebbles’ fans! It’s Eva Pizarro with you today, bringing you a quick tutorial for a Journaling Mini Book.

One of the goals I set myself every year is to keep a journal. I try to do my best but after the first weeks I give up, it is hard to create a habit! Most of the time what happens is that I think I don’t have interesting stories to write about, that’s why I created this little mini book with 52 journaling prompts, one for each week of the year.

To create the mini book just use your own prompts or download this file. If you use my file print it in A4 paper (or adapt it to Letter) and cut it in 4 pages. (I used journaling prompts I found on this list and this one)

To make the covers use cardboard and cover the border with washi tape. (You can see how I used a similar technique to decorate fridge magnets here)

Embellish your front and back cover with some letters and die cuts. You could also add an elastic to your back cover to keep the journal closed.

Use your Cinch to bind everything.

The mini book is ready and I can’t wait to use it!

This would be a great gift for someone you love, your spouse or maybe your parents!

Do you love mini books? I made a Gratitude Journal a couple of years ago and it was very uplifting going back and reading everything I wrote.

Favorite Phrases Layout

Hi Pebbles friends.  Heather Leopard is here with a layout featuring one of my favorite phrases.  This one is about the special bond between siblings, specifically sisters.  While I don’t have any siblings myself, I see how much these two adore each other and I just fell in love with this quote.

Use a quote on your layout like this one by @heatherleopard using the #WarmAndCozy collection from @PebblesInc.

This quote means so much to me.  Obviously about their bond but also about my hopes and dreams for them, that they will be each other’s rock as they share life’s adventure.  I chose to dominate the page with the quote and a single black and white photo zooming in on them holding hands.  I will walk you through the steps on how to recreate something like this.

Use a quote on your layout like this one by @heatherleopard using the #WarmAndCozy collection from @PebblesInc.

I knew I wanted to use a large phrase but I also knew I wanted some sort of grounding factor to it so I stitched layers of the same paper to the left 1/4 of the page. I also sewed a small black border (not pictures).

Use a quote on your layout like this one by @heatherleopard using the #WarmAndCozy collection from @PebblesInc.

First, select a phrase and then cut the words.  You have many options – hand cutting, die cutting using dies or your electronic cutting machine.  I chose the latter. Just type your words in the software.  Since I had the border on the left side of the page, I drew that out in the software so that I’d know just how big or small to make the letters.  Once I liked the size, I cut the letters out of three different patterned papers.

Next, adhere the letters to the background paper.  Make sure to leave room for your photo, embellishments and journaling, if you want to add additional comments.

I added little flower clusters around the page and the photo.  I just fussy cut flowers that fit int he space I had available!

Some of the embellishments were tucked behind the layers and photo while others were adhered with foam squares for added dimension. So there you have it – a favorite quote of a favorite photo of my favorite girls.  Now I will add just a bit of journaling and the date to finish it off.

Children’s art frame

Hello everyone! It’s Eva on the blog today sharing a quick tutorial for a home decor for your baby or child.

Use alphas and word stickers from the #WarmAndCozy collection by @tatertotsandjello and @pebblesinc to create this lovely wall decor for your child. Tutorial by @evapizarrov #homedecor #pebblesinc

I really love the rose gold accents from the Warm and Cozy line and thought a word art frame would look lovely on my son’s room. This quote is from a Beatles’ song and reflects exactly how I feel about my baby boy.

To make a word art frame, measure your frame and use white cardstock to cover the base. You could also use a patterned paper with a subtle pattern.

Use your alphas and stickers to spell your phrase. Mix fonts to add interest to your decor.

To decorate the background of my frame I used washi tape. I decided to cut small triangles with my scissors but you could also cut some shapes with a small punch.

Remove the back and adhere to your page.

And here’s my finished piece, ready to be hung on my boy’s bedroom!

This two fonts pair beautifully and I love the subtle shine of the rose gold letters!
